Hautecombe Abbaye Royale

Author:

Gabriel Pérouse

Publication date:

1731

The Royal Abbey of Hautecombe is a symbolic place for the Savoy dynasty, as in its chapel there are 28 mausoleums and sarcophagi belonging to members of the royal house. The volume is decorated with the evocative illustrations by Johanny Drevet; it retraces the history of the Abbey from his Cistercian foundation at the beginning of the XII century in Savoy until 1860, when the Savoy region passed to France and Hautecombe broke its ties to the lands under the Alps.

Si Hautecombe datait des temps mérovingiens, ses historiens n’auraient
pas trop mauvaise grâce à dire que les commencements en sont mal connus.
