King Charles Albert entrusted the Latinist Tommaso Vallauri – a University of Turin professor – with the composition of a work to celebrate his ancient dynasty. It was published in 1845 together with elegant engravings that reproduce the drawings of the unknown “mister G. Zino”.
The story starts at the dawn of 1700s with the description of Turin’s siege laid by the French troops, and the tale of the heroic resistance by the besieged; after four months, Victor Amadeus II’s army force the enemies to fall back. This heroic event as well as other ones, partly true and partly fictional, are gathered in the Fasti della Reale Casa di Savoia e della Monarchia.
