The history of the house of Savoy is strictly tied to Chambéry, and even after the capital of the kingdom was moved to Turin, the sovereign kept visiting the city in Savoy. The book collects poetry, odes and songs composed for the royal stay in Chambéry in 1816, as well as a detailed resume of the royal travel. The works symbolize popular devotion; a song in the dialect of Piedmont is especially interesting, because it is a proof of a language almost disappeared nowadays.

D’ai mo quatre vein doze ans,
Mai vo ne saria creyre
Combien d’ai fai de bon san
Dey qui n’ia plu de guerre
E que noz sein shoeur d’avey
Totafai noutron vrai Rey;
Qué vive, qué vive, qué vive.
(chanson d’on bon vioeu Savoyard de 92 ans)
